What is a modular chiller?
A modular chiller consists of multiple independent and standardized refrigeration modules (typically identical or interoperable) connected in parallel, which have independent compressors, condensers, evaporators and control systems. Each module is connected by pipes and cables, and can share water pumps, cooling towers and pipes. Each module has a local controller, but all are subject to the control of the central integrated controller, so you can control the operation of all cooling circuits in a unified manner. Compared with traditional chillers, its distributed structure and combinable design are more flexible.

Reduce energy consumption
The compressor has an optimal efficiency point, usually 70% to 100% of full load, within which the efficiency of converting electrical energy into cooling capacity is the highest. However, during the life cycle, most industrial chillers are under partial load and basically do not reach the designed load peak. When below the optimal load range, fixed-speed compressors, pumps and fans still operate at full load, which is an important reason for the high energy consumption of traditional large units.
The control system of a modular chiller can accurately calculate the required cooling capacity and start the cooling modules that just meet the required number. For example, if the load only requires 30% of the total capacity, then the system that supports stepless capacity control may only run 70% of one module, or even run 1.5 modules precisely. This allows each module to run close to the optimal efficiency point, significantly reducing energy consumption.
N+1 redundant design
A single point of failure in a cooling system often leads to long downtime maintenance, affecting production progress. Modular chillers can help you avoid this trouble. Different modules are connected in parallel, and even if one module fails, it will only affect the refrigeration circuit. The control system will automatically isolate the faulty module and issue an alarm, and redistribute the load with a normal module without causing the entire system to shut down. Even during normal operating hours, it is possible to maintain one of the modules separately without shutting down the entire system.
In addition, modular chillers usually have built-in redundancy. Suppose your system consists of 5 modules, and 4 modules may be able to meet the peak load. This means that even if one of the modules fails, the remaining modules can ensure the normal operation of the system at high load. This design is very important for applications that do not allow downtime.
Future-Proof Scalability
When purchasing a chiller, most people choose to install equipment that meets the current load requirements. However, as production lines increase or new projects are added, the cooling system will gradually fail to meet application requirements. At this time, you can only replace or add new units.
